Holiday cottage rental close to Florence, Italy

"Il Visciolo" is a detached self catering cottage that we rent for tourists who like to live a real Tuscan experience. Previously a barn, our two-storey detached house is located in the Chianti village of San Casciano in Val di Pesa. Please note it's not a flat but an independent building. In Italy this kind of structure usually is not called villa, but we have noticed that many of our foreign guests do appeal it this way.

The holiday cottage to rent has got a great view over the Tuscan hills and is surrounded by a garden with olive and fruit trees. From the olive trees we get extra virgin olive oil for our and our friends needs. Il Visciolo can accommodate four persons. We don't provide any service as it's a self catering accommodation.

Located in the rural village of San Casciano in Val di Pesa (Florence)

The holiday cottage is 380 yards from the main square of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a Chianti village in the province of Florence. A big supermarket is 820 yards from the cottage and there are several shops at shorter distance. Guests of Il Visciolo can go on foot in various restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias in the area. The cottage is not lost in the countryside, this may not appeal to those seeking total isolation in the green Tuscan countryside, but is much appreciated by our guests for the convenience of having many services accessible within few minutes walk while enjoying privacy and panoramic views over the countryside.

Just 9 miles to Florence historic centre

Our holiday cottage is only 9.3 miles (15 Km) far from Florence Historic Centre, 31 miles from Siena, 47 miles from Pisa. San Casciano in Val di Pesa village is easily connected to Florence and Siena by a dual toll-free carriageway. But having a car is not required: the centre of Florence can be easily reached by public coach service. Departures are 550 metres from the property, the journey by bus to Florence takes approximately 30-35 minutes and it ends a few steps from the central train station of Florence (Firenze Santa Maria Novella).

A starting point to visit other Italian cities, also without a car

San Casciano is well placed for your excursions outside Tuscany. For example, the cities of Rome and Venice can be reached by car in about 3 hours. But it is possible to reach the beauties of ancient Rome or the elegant palaces of Venice without worring about parking and traffic. As a matter of fact you can reach most Italian cities by public transport: reach Florence's railway station of Firenze Santa Maria Novella (about 30 minutes) by SITA coach and from there get a fast train. It takes 1 hour and 33 minutes getting to Rome Termini, 2 hours to Venice.

Owners direct rental

We are a Florentine family who lives in San Casciano since 15 years, having bought and renovated a property that consists of two buildings: a farmhouse and an ex-barn. We live in the farmhouse next to the barn, which we rent to tourists who want to enjoy the Tuscan life without the crowds. We are able to speak English and French and we are available to guests for suggestions on places to visit, where to eat and where to shop.

A self catering accommodation

Holiday cottage "Il Visciolo" is rented for self catering holidays, it is not a B&B or an hotel. "Self catering" means you are being provided with an accommodation that has facilities to allow you to cook and cater for yourselves but you are not provided with meals.
Bedding, linen and weekly cleanings are provided and included into the rental price. The cottage has got an equipped kitchen with all the necessary to prepare meals: crockery and utensils, fridge and freezer, dish washer, oven, kettle, toaster, american coffeemaker.

• Utilities: dishwasher, cooker, fridge with freezer, washing machine;
• Air conditioning (since April 2010), high speed Internet access, ethernet/wireless modem+router, fireplace, central heating, Radio-CD player, satellite TV, kettle, toaster, iron, ironing board, hair dryer;
• Linen and towels provided;
• Two parking spaces inside the property's gate.

In the holiday cottage you will also find travel guides to Florence, Chianti and Tuscany. The house is equipped with everything you need to stay in a proper manner, every year we have guests who spend several weeks at Il Visciolo. We are at your disposal if you have doubts or any questions about furniture or appliances supplied. Please ask, we will reply promptly.

Wireless connection is provided, it covers all the house and part of the garden. The house has got its own VDSL Internet access (30 Mbit/s), it is unmetered and there is a modem-router (Wi-Fi b/g/n and Ethernet cable).

Rental conditions

Minimum booking is one week except during low season which is 4 or 5 days (price page for details). We accept also medium and long term rental (montly rental up to 8 months).
