Holiday house in Chianti near Florence (Tuscany)

Holiday house "Il Visciolo" is a typical Tuscan cottage situated in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a village in the province of Florence.

The country house to rent is a converted barn (fienile in Italian), its restoring ended in 2006. Il Visciolo is a two-storey detached house, not an apartment, with a dominant position over the Chianti hills. Chianti is a geographical area in Tuscany, between Florence and Siena.

The vacation rental is managed by us, the owners; we live in the next door farmhouse and we will be at your disposal for travel tips, giving you information on places to visit, where to eat and to shop. In the house, at guests' disposal, there are some books and travel guides about Florence and Tuscany.

The holiday house to rent is build following the traditional style of Tuscan country houses. Large arch shaped windows allow a wonderful view of the Chianti landscape from both stories. A stone floored open space in front of the groundfloor rooms lets you to relax and sunbathe. You can also have meals outside under the gazebo sitting at a four seats table and using a stone and cotto (old bricks) barbecue.

The garden surrounding the house is full of olive trees that gives our family a fine extra virgin oil for ourselves and our friends.

Enjoy the village life while discovering Florence and Tuscany

The holiday house is 350 meters (382 yards) from the main square of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, and 16 Km (9.5 miles) from the historic centre of Florence.
San Casciano in Val di Pesa is a lively Tuscan village offering all facilities for tourists, connected to Florence and Siena by efficient public transports so that you can avoid using the car (parking is often a problem in those cities). The travel by bus from San Casciano to Florence Firenze Santa Maria Novella (central train station in the historic centre) — and the opposite — takes from 30 to 40 minutes.
The trip to Siena by bus is longer (1 hour and half) and you have to change buses in Pontassieve.

Country cottage Il Visciolo is not isolated in the open country, the property is not fenced and the back faces other San Casciano VP houses. That gives the opportunity to move without a car approaching other tourist places or enjoying the facilities the village itself offers. Our vacation home is the ideal accommodation for your holidays in Tuscany, being so close to Firenze/Florence and the other charming Chianti villages like Greve, Strada, Impruneta etc.

An excellent starting point to visit Italy

From the holiday house there are just 4 Km (7 minutes) to the entrance of RA03 (a dual carriageway) towards Florence (see map) and 3.4 Km (5 minutes) to reach the entrance towards Siena (see). Taking the RA03 freeway you can reach in few minutes the entrance of Autostrada A1, a toll motorway that connects Florence to the south (Rome) and the north of Italy (Milan, Bologna, Venice). Il Visciolo is in a perfect position even for those who want to visit those italian cities. More information about road distancies are on the location page.

The property

The single-family detached home to rent is part of a group of buildings called "I Chisci", being the hayloft of an old villa dating back to 1300 in its original part. Probably the name comes from the English "cherry" because of cherry-trees. No wonder the use of an English word beeing Tuscany the beloved English Chiantishire, favourite place of British artists and writers in the last centuries. Following this tradition, we named the house Il Visciolo - the name of a kind of cherry-tree.
